St Berdoodle History and Origin: The country of origin of the St Berdoodle breed was in United States during the mid to late 1900's. The lineage of the hybrid St Berdoodle is a combination of two dog breeds. The Saint Bernard dog, the "Saint", originated in Switzerland as a Search and Rescue dog during the Medieval era. The Standard Poodle, the "Caniche", began as a water dog, specifically as a duck retriever, in Germany during the 1500's. During the 1990's dog breeders began to create the so-called 'Designer Dogs" and began to develop a new breed based on the combined qualities of the Poodle and the Saint Bernard dog.

The breeding programs resulted in the St Berdoodle, a wonderful dog that exhibited the low shedding coat and super intelligence of the Poodle with the substance and hardiness of the Saint Bernard. The amazing hybrid St Berdoodle was a success with families especially in rural areas. The cross-breed St Berdoodle is currently recognized by the Designer Dogs Kennel Club (DDKC) and the American Canine Hybrid Club (ACHC).
