The goal of crossing the two breeds was to create 'Pomadoodle' puppies that incorporated the passive, laid-back, home loving nature of the Pomeranian with the high intelligence and non-shedding coat of the Poodle.

Origin of the name: The origin of the name "Pomapoo" derives from a combination of the names of the dog's parents.

Pomapoo History and Origin: The country of origin of the Pomapoo breed was in United States during the mid to late 1900's. The lineage of the hybrid Pomapoo is a combination of two dog breeds. The Pomeranian, the "Puffball", originated in Germany as a Companion and Lapdog during the 1800's. The Poodle, the "Caniche", began as a water dog, specifically as a duck retriever, in Germany during the 1500's. During the 1990's dog breeders began to create the so-called 'Designer Dogs" and began to develop a new breed based on the combined qualities of the Poodle and the Pomeranian.

The breeding programs resulted in the Pomapoo, an captivating dog that incorporated the placid, home loving personality of the Pomeranian with the low shedding coat and cleverness of the Poodle.. The hybrid Pomapoo was found to be sociable and companionable and was a great success with families and considerate children. The cross-breed Pomapoo is currently recognized by the Designer Dogs Kennel Club (DDKC) and the American Canine Hybrid Club (ACHC).

Pomapoo Height: This breed is classified as a Toy / Small sized dog. The height to the shoulder of a male dog is 8 to 10 inches (Small size). The height to the shoulder of a female dog is slightly less.

Pomapoo Weight: Not surprisingly for a Toy / Small sized dog, the weight of a Pomapoo male dog is only 5 to 15 pounds lbs (Small size). The weight of the smaller female dog is slightly less than the male.

Pomapoo Coat Type - LOW shedding coat: The coat type is described as varied coat type depending on hereditary traits and the Pomapoo coat can therefore be short or long  soft or silky hair that can be a loose wavy coat, a tight curly / ringlet coat or a straight coat.
