This "designer dog" hybrid breed exhibits the combination of characteristics, and a temperament mix, associated with the Newfoundland dog and a Poodle. The goal of crossing the two breeds was to create 'Newfiedoodle' puppies that might incorporate the noble look and exceptionally gentle, companionable and docile nature of the Newfoundland with the devotion, high intelligence and non-shedding coat of the Poodle.

Newfypoo History and Origin: The country of origin of the Newfypoo breed was in United States during the mid to late 1900's. The lineage of the hybrid Newfypoo is a combination of two dog breeds. The Poodle, the "Caniche", began as a water dog and retriever, in Germany during the 1500's.The Newfoundland dog, the "Newfie", originated in Newfoundland, a large island in Eastern Canada as a fisherman's dog during the 1800's. During the 1990's dog breeders began to create the so-called 'Designer Dogs" and began to develop a new breed based on the combined qualities of the Newfoundland dog and the Poodle.

The breeding programs resulted in the Newfypoo, an adorable dog that exhibited the low shedding coat and high intelligence of the Poodle and the majestic appearance and exceptionally clam, genial nature of the Newfoundland Dog. The hybrid Newfypoo was was a great success with new owners and families that lived in rural areas. The cross-breed Newfypoo is currently recognized by the Designer Dogs Kennel Club (DDKC) and the American Canine Hybrid Club (ACHC).

Newfypoo Height: This breed is classified as a large sized dog. The height to the shoulder of a male dog is 21-30 inches. The height to the shoulder of a female dog is slightly less.

Newfypoo Weight: Not surprisingly for a large sized dog, the weight of a Newfypoo male dog is 60-130 lbs. The weight of the smaller female dog is slightly less than the male.

Newfypoo Coat Type: The coat type is described as varied coat type depending on hereditary traits and the Newfypoo coat can therefore be short or long  soft, coarse or silky hair that can be a loose wavy coat, a tighter curly coat or a straight coat.
